Earl Ernest Downum's Obituary
Earl Ernest Downum (aka Budrow), 93, of Weimar, California, died July 26, 2013 at his home.
He was born March 20, 1920, in Fame, Oklahoma to Christopher Columbus and Vergie Mae (Turner) Downum.
Earl married Thelma Imogene Matthews in Stidham, OK on October 27, 1940. Earl and Imogene moved to California where they both worked the cotton fields of the Central Valley. Eventually, he and his growing family moved to Rio Linda when he began his career in the construction industry. His dream to own his own land brought Earl and his family to Weimar where Earl spent the rest of his life. He retired from the Laborers Union Local 185 in 1977 after 27 years of service. Earl loved farming, hunting, hound dogs, and his horses and mules that he often hooked up to old horse drawn farm equipment and wagons.
Earl is survived by his two daughters; Vernona Garcia, Syntha (Dale) Codde, son, Stanley (Chris) Downum, brothers; Lowell Downum, Charles Downum, Albert Downum, and Vester Downum, and nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Imogene Downum; sons; Scott Downum (Ann), Mark Downum (Yvonne); brothers; Jessie Downum, Willis Downum, and sisters; Minnie Hallum, Dolly Rollins, and Bernadine Bristow.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 47 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento.
