Dorothy Ann Rodgers was born to Early Phillips and Landora Phillips on May 1, 1953. Along with her mother, father and older sister, Earlene, she shared the home with her Aunt Ginny, who was Sister of her mother who had two children: Michael and Yvonne.
Dorothy was diagnosed as a diabetic at the age of 9. However, with all the restrictions that the doctor explained to her, it didn’t stop her determination of having an active life style. She had a passion for athletic activities such as playing, basketball in Junior and Senior High Schools to performing dancing routines.
Dorothy was a caring person and always volunteering to do things cheer up her family. Dorothy was a natural charismatic leader.
Dorothy graduated from Sacramento High School in 1971. Continued her education at Sacramento Community College after being bribed with a car in Political Science and Business Administration in 1974.

Dorothy was baptized at the age of 9 by Reverend Christian at the Church of God and Christ on 4th Avenue in Sacramento, California. As most of you all know, Dorothy lived by two verses in the Bible: Exodus 20:12: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you,” and Proverb 13:24:” Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. she had no problem disciplining the children who weren’t even hers. Her number one belief is “You do not talk back to your parents. I don’t care if they are wrong.” And, if she heard children disrespecting their parent(s), she would exercise Proverbs 13:24 in a second.
Dorothy was called home by her one and only Lord and Saviour on July 6, 2024. Dorothy is survived by her son: David Granderson, Her granddaughter: Jasminique Sanchez, and her great grandchildren: Aniya Pierce, Damon Flagg III, Josiah Flagg, and Elijah Flagg. Her first cousins, Yvonne Wilson ( Sacramento); Stanley Freeman (Las Vegas); Sherrill Sherman (New Jersey); Laheart Taylor, Lilly Bailey, Sarah Bailey-Wilkins, Jeffery Bailey (North Carolina).
The lesson learned: Never take your loved ones for granted. And if you’re ever lucky enough to find that one person in life who makes you love more than any other person could possibly make you love, you treat every day together as if it were your last. You cherish every moment.
Sebastian
