Dorothy Coleen Harrington's Obituary
Dorothy Coleen Harrington, resident of Sacramento, departed this world June 6, 2022 in her own home, in the presence of her daughter Dana, grandson Dillon and grand-daughter Destinee. They were her constant companions and caregivers.
She was born May 31, 1944 to Frank and Ada Rose Messier. She was the third child of nine, and the eldest daughter.
Beloved mother of three, Derek M Harrington, Dennis M Harrington, and Dana M Harrington-Whiting, all residents of Sacramento.
Son in-law Matthew Whiting, daughters in-law Jeanne Harrington and Roxanne Harrington. Grandmother to six, Derek Harrington Jr, Stephanie Balli, Dillon Harrington, Nikki Harrington, Dakota Harrington and Destinee (Tiny) Harrington. Great-grandmother to six beautiful children.
Left behind to grieve, she is also survived by her brothers David Messier, Douglas Messier, sisters Dawn Jackson and Dina Messier. She will be fondly remembered by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Dorothy grew up in North Sacramento and graduated from Norte Del Rio High school. She briefly lived in Redding, California and Cleveland, Ohio. She worked as a Social Security Disability Analyst for the State of California and retired after 30 years. She purchased her own home on Lily street in Sacramento, where she raised her three children. She loved her home and enjoyed caring for it. She loved gardening and filled her garden, porch and patio with lovely plants and flowers.
Dorothy was a generous, loyal sister and friend to all. She brought her brother Dennis to live in her home when his health began to fail. She cared for him until his passing in September, 2016. She was a constant visitor and friend to our Aunt Hilda Stevenson until her passing in 2020. There are countless stories of her generosity.
Dorothy was proceeded in death by her beloved parents, Frank and Ada Rose Messier, her brothers Dennis L Messier, Dale A Messier, sisters Diane E Messier and Debra J Messier.
