Doris L. Hill's Obituary
Doris L. Hill, nee Doris Johnette Levang, born September 10, 1920, left this earth to join her God and Savior at home in heaven on April 11, 2017. There she will be united with her husband, Chuck, her daughter Carol, son Jeff and her family of brothers and sisters and Ma and Pa. She is survived by her daughter Janis and son-in-law, Carl Deverter of Sequim, WA, granddaughters, Jonel Porta, Cassie Pillars, Lisa Levy and great grandchildren, Kylie, Avery, McKenzie, Ella, Analise and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was born in North Dakota to Mina and Didrek Levang, the youngest of their 7 children, She loved to tell stories of the days on the farm. It was an idyllic childhood, and Mom spoke lovingly of it. In her late teens, she left North Dakota and joined older sisters Martha and Marie in Sacramento, California working as a domestic. She attended Sacramento City College where she and Vi Williams were classmates. Doris met her husband Chuck through sister Martha’s husband, dear Uncle C.A. (Buck) Nelson. Following the war, Doris and Chuck began their early married life in Santa Monica, CA. Pictures of them on the beach are reminders to children of the joyful youth of our parents. After Santa Monica, Doris and Chuck moved to San Francisco and again, Mom recounted fun stories of their time there. Their first child, Carol was born and they settled in Rio Linda, CA living next door to sister and brother-in-law Martha and Buck Nelson…. again joyful family times. The birth of twins, Jeff and Janis, kept Mom busy as a young mother. Doris returned to work in the late 60’s at the California State Library. She was loved and respected by her co- workers as she managed the State Libraries processing center that cataloged and sent books to county libraries throughout the state. After retirement Doris and Chuck enjoyed traveling in their little camper to many “picture place” locations around the state. Doris especially enjoyed living just down the street from daughter Carol and family. Her pastimes included many things but by far she was best known for her Scrabble game that she enjoyed with family and friends. Doris offered kindness and respite to many at her little home in Rio Linda, friends were like family and family were friends. She made killer oatmeal cookies and was always an excellent cook. Lover of birds, flowers, and nature, she was a dedicated and loving mother and wife. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She will be missed by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Doris’s life will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Calvary Lutheran
Church in Rio Linda, CA. There will be a reception immediately following the service.
