Doris May Emmons' Obituary
Doris May Emmons was born in Oakland, California on October 16, 1929. She passed away in Elk Grove, California on July 19, 2015. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. The Following is a note from Russ Emmons: My mom, Doris, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening right about sunset. My sister Sue, my brother Rod, and I were all with her, holding her hands and doing everything we could to make her comfortable. She was listening to us chatter about random family stuff, and then she just slipped away with a smile on her face. She was 85 years old, and she loved life. Family and friends meant the world to her, and she knew how to have fun and make the world sparkle around her. I think she touched almost everyone she met.
The family will be taking both her and my dad’s ashes on one final trip down to San Diego. We’ll be saying our farewells to them as we scatter them into the ocean together, somewhere off Point Loma, “where the oceans meet”, as my mom put it. My mom promised to look out for my dad, as he’s not a strong swimmer, and she’ll take care of him. Though we will miss her greatly, after being apart nearly 9 years, Doris and Jack are together again.
For those inclined, flowers and biodegradable wreaths can be arranged for the ceremony by contacting Penn at (619) 223-3161. (Let her know we’re on the August 14 12pm charter from San Diego Burial at Sea leaving from the Shelter Island Marina.) Alternatively, a donation in her memory to Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity would be appreciated. Simply remembering her and the love and joy she brought to those around her is equally acceptable.
For those of you in San Diego, my sister and I will be visiting one of my mom’s favorite places, Baja Betty’s, for a properly made margarita in her honor on the afternoon of Sunday, August 16. You’re welcome to stop by and share a memory with us.
