Donald L Jones' Obituary
DONALD L. JONES 1/8/1941 – 9/20/2023
Donald L. Jones “Don” was born on January 8, 1941, in Ozone, Arkansas and entered into rest at his home in Citrus Heights, California on September 20, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Dorothy; first wife Mildred; grandson John Wood; and sisters Norma Durham, Brenda Lehman, and Leona Goodwin. He is survived by wife Alma; children Suzette Helgeson, Donald Jr. (Cheryl), and Kenneth (Christie), Carina (Maurice) Pettaway, and Tammy Hill (Charlie Hayes); grandchildren Sam Hammer, Stephen (Angel) Cowan, Donald III, Jennifer, Kelly (Tyler) Davis, Kenneth Jr. (Rachele), Shauntae, Michial, and Aaron; great-grandchildren Sammy, Stan, Nathaniel, Anecia, Alyssa, Madison, Kristen, Paige, Jace, Peyton, Paisley, Logan, and Axel; siblings Jo Ann Creel, Mary (Micheal) Conley, Eileen Hassel, Michael, Terry Meyer, Omega “Janine” Williams, Galen (Steve) Baker, and Danny Elliott; many nieces and nephews and other family members; and countless friends.
At the age of 17, Don met Mildred Elliott, and they married on July 10, 1959. Don and Mildred were happily married for 43 years, building a life around their three children, spending time dancing, bowling, and going to the races with the Lehman family.
Don followed his father into the drywall industry, working a very long career spanning nearly five decades. Don taught this trade to his brother Michael, his sons Don and Kenny, and many others. He was a perfectionist in all he did. If it was worth doing, it was worth doing right.
Don’s love for the outdoors was second only to his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He also was known to play a practical joke or two. He loved to laugh, even if it was at himself.
After Mildred passed in 2003, Don reconnected with a childhood friend, Alma, and married her on April 30, 2009, where he gained two additional daughters to love.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 1:00 pm, at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd, Sacramento, California and will be followed by a reception at Legion Hall Post 521, 6700 8th Street, Rio Linda, California.
