Dimple Lene Morrison's Obituary
Dimple L. Morrison, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on
February 16, 2024. She was born July 20, 1937, in Columbus, Arkansas. On November 21,
1941, her family moved to Laveen, Arizona where she lived until adulthood.
Dimple attended Laveen Elementary School and was a student in the last graduating class of
Carver High School due to desegregation in 1954.
She pursued higher education at Arizona State University earning a Bachelor of Arts in
Education in May 1958 and later a Master of Arts in Education from San Diego State University
in May 1975.
Following graduation from ASU, she used her teaching skills in Arizona and California. She
taught and mentored students of all ages during her years in the classroom and her
tenure as a principal until she retired from the San Diego School District in 1996.
Dimple’s loves in life were her family, her church, and the joy of lifelong learning. Although
Dimple never had children of her own, she acted as the role of mother to many people
throughout her life. Mother Dimple, an honored title in her church, always strived to make sure
people knew they were welcome and loved.
Dimple took great pleasure in bringing others joy, especially with birthday cards. She was
meticulous in her planning, purchasing, writing, and sending of birthday cards to many
relatives, friends, and church members. Mtr. Morrison’s personalized cards in the mail as well as the delicious banana pudding desserts she made for church events and to share with friends
and family will be missed by many. Mtr. Morrison will be remembered as a kind, caring, and
generous person.
Mother Dimple united with the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob on December 30, 1944,
at the age of seven, and became a lifelong and faithful church member. She worshipped with the Compton, California congregation as a supportive member throughout her career in education.
In addition to her teaching degrees, Mtr. Dimple Morrison graduated from Bible School in the
Supreme Council of the House of Jacob and was blessed to receive her diploma in 1980. Post-retirement, Mtr. Morrison moved to Sacramento, where she continued to work for the Lord. She
supported church projects and fundraisers while also holding the office of Treasurer for various
church auxiliaries. Dimple remained an active and faithful church member even through the
pandemic and her recent move to Temecula to live with a nephew and his family in 2021. Mtr.
Dimple Morrison had a strong desire to attend the local convocation in Sacramento, CA in
August 2023, her first since 2020, and was able to do so reuniting with many loved and
cherished friends. She also prayed she could attend The House of Jacob’s Anniversary Day
Service was held in Richmond, CA on January 1, 2024, and with a little logistical help, her prayers were answered. Thanks be to God. Dimple enjoyed serving others in her many roles as a teacher, principal, aunt, and church member. She also loved to travel and looked back on her trips with fondness, including vacations with a sister to both Canada and Hawaii. She also took many trips with her sisters to Bethlehem Township, Ohio where she gained many friends in the House of Jacob. On one such trip, they had the opportunity to visit the eastern shore where she was blessed to attend church service in Washington DC with her sisters.
As long-distance cross-country trips declined in recent years, Mtr. Morrison continued to see
the world and participated in what she called “mini trips” thanks to her dear friend, Eldress
Sandra Simpson–Fontaine, who willingly drove her, her sister, and her niece to desired destinations including Monterey, California for whale watching and a Napa Lunch Train ride in Napa Valley.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Deacon John A. and Senior Mtr. Clardine Morrison;
three sisters: Mtr. Fleta Hill, Elderess Maeroy Carolina, Adv. Sr.Mtr. Doris Massie, and one
brother, Mr. Lee A. Morrison.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three sisters, Adv. Sr. Mtr. Darlene Dryer-Taylor, Mtr. Elsie
Gray, and Mrs. Bonnie Nelson, a whole host of nieces and nephews, extended family members
and treasured friends throughout the world.
