David Louis Murphy's Obituary
David Louis Murphy, born August 11, 1954, in Sacramento, California, passed away on February 16, 2026 surrounded by the love of those who cherished him.
He was the beloved son of Robert Thomas Murphy and Velma Doris Murphy (née Ingersol), and grew up in Sacramento alongside his siblings, Tom and Greg, forming bonds that shaped his life.
In his early adulthood, David married Diana Wilhelm. Together, they shared 13 years of marriage and built their family home—laying both physical and emotional foundations that supported their growing family. Their years together were marked by partnership, hard work, and the creation of a place filled with love.
David was a dedicated and hard‑working man who spent 15 years as a longshoreman before embarking on a new chapter—building a landscaping business with his son, David Thomas Murphy. For 25 years, father and son worked side‑by‑side, cultivating not only beautiful outdoor spaces but also a partnership rooted in pride and purpose.
He was a loving father to his two children, Regina Furniss and David Thomas Murphy, and a man whose joy was amplified by the simple pleasures of life. David loved music and sunshine, and he found happiness outdoors—whether fishing, boating, golfing, or enjoying a good baseball game.
For the last 22 years, David found deep companionship with his girlfriend, Cari Vivian, whose presence brought him comfort, laughter, and peace.
David is preceded in death by his parents and by his granddaughter, Emilie Furniss, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
He is survived by his children, Regina Furniss and David Thomas Murphy (Erika);
his brothers, Tom Murphy (Donna) and Greg Murphy (Amy);
his grandchildren, Ashleigh Murphy and Kevin Furniss (Katie);
and his great‑grandchildren, Violet Furniss, Riley Furniss, and Jackson Furniss.
He will be remembered for his warmth, his work ethic, his love of the outdoors, and the steady, joyful presence he brought to all who knew him.
