Curby St. Mary's Obituary
Curby St. Mary, Sr.
February 6, 1931 - December 12, 2020
Curby was born February 6th, 1931 to Arsene St. Mary, Sr. and Sadie (Harris) St. Mary in the bayou countryside of Moss Bluff, Louisiana. Curby passed away December 12, 2020, at 89 years of age, due to complications from hip surgery.
As we gathered December 23rd at the graveside, we remembered Curby for the great man he was.
Curby was raised in a very loving and close-knit family. He was the youngest of ten sons, and next to the youngest of the fourteen children, all of which have now passed on. Curby and his siblings worked hard, walked proud, and loved their family. Curby was a gentle, kind, and generous man. He loved to zydeco, fish, hunt, and enjoyed a friendly game of poker.
Curby and four of his brothers migrated to California. Often times you would see two or more of them running around together. They were The St. Mary Brothers, and proud of it.
Among those surviving to cherish his memory are: his loving wife Coventry, and seven children: Cecelia St. Mary Williams (Mark), Mark St. Mary (Stephany), Curby St. Mary, Jr., Theresa St. Mary Osborne, Eldridge St. Mary, Preona St. Mary, and Nita St. Mary.
Curby’s devoted and loving family has grown over the years. He has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a passel of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Included in his family are also two beloved sisters-in-law: Bobbie St. Mary (Lloyd, deceased), and Teresa St. Mary (Charley, deceased).
Thank you for sharing this moment as we pay our respects and show our love for Curby. We were not able to have a full service due to the pandemic, but there will be a Celebration of Life for Curby in 2021 at a later date when the world is a safer place.
Mark St. Mary presented a song that he wrote and recorded entitled, “Mother I’m Coming Home” at the service. He also led us in prayer as we said our final goodbyes to our beloved Curby St. Mary, Sr.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park, 4701 Marysville Boulevard, Sacramento CA 95838 on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
The staff at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family at this very difficult time.
