Bettye O. Williams' Obituary
Bettye O. Williams was born to Montague Odum and Eula Pegues in Trenton, Louisiana on May 7th, 1931. She
was the third of five children who have all preceded her in death. Bettye O. remained in Shreveport, Louisiana until she was a preteen, then moving to Phoenix, AZ where she lived out her primary, secondary and post-secondary schooling. Her post-secondary institutions
include ASU, USC, UC Berkeley and Bethany College.
She moved to Southern California with
her two daughters, where she completed her studies at USC. Bettye O. was a licensed clinical social worker and mental health advocate who believed in personal accountability and growth; an ideal which she applied to every facet of her life. She then relocated
to Sacramento, CA to work for fair employment and housing. Her engagement spanned many capacities from group home counseling to prison counseling and many others. Bettye O. fearlessly followed the Lord and was a faithful member of Calvary Christian Center dating
back to when they were in the little chapel. She grew in the ministry as the church grew. Bettye O. was a part of G-12, New Beginnings, Childrens Church, Eagle Saints, Personal Workers and a part of the prayer team.
She was a trailblazer
when it came to all things civil rights. She was the founding President of The National Council
of Negro Women Sacramento chapter. She was also a strong proponent of voting rights. She also helped organize and participate in sit-ins to end racial injustice at Woolworths.
Bettye O. was a world traveler and
a philanthropist who did not discriminate against any cause. Bettye O. Williams took her last breath on February 21, 2022. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Denise and Kathy; grandchildren Angela, Christina, Sami, Caselle, Dawn, and Monet; great grandchildren
Jenna, Anthony, Vivienne, Dominic, and Kamryn.
