Betty J. Schafer's Obituary
Betty J. Schafer (03/06/1923 - 01/28/2022), 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022 in Sacramento, California. Betty was born on March 6, 1923 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. The daughter of George Vincent and Clara Jane Robbins. Betty was a longtime resident of California. On February 14, 1948 she married her husband, William E. (Bill) Schafer, Sr. in a double wedding with her sister and brother in law, Jane and Scott Berry. Betty and Bill were married for 61 years until Bill's passing in 2009.
Betty had served in the Women's Army Corps and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. It was there that she met Bill. After they finished their service, they moved to California and she lived there for more than 70 years.
Betty was a homemaker and involved in many groups. She was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was in the BLCW women's group and sewing circle. She also had been involved with the PTA at her children's schools, the Northgate Bobby Sox, and the Northgate Little League, among others. Betty and Bill liked to travel and drove their motor home multiple times across the Country and went on many family trips and cruises.
Betty was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She loved her family and spending time with them. She is survived by her children Carol Bickford (David), Janet Edwards (Ron), Diane Corbet (Kevin), and Steven Schafer (Joanne). She is also survived by her 8 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren and her sister Jane Berry of Sunbury, PA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William E. Schafer, Sr., her son, William E. Schafer, Jr. and her Granddaughter, Kristen Lewin.
