Avery LaWayne Owens' Obituary
Avery LaWayne Owens was born on April 7, 1968 in Sacramento, California to Christine Wilson – Owens and O.C.Owens Sr. As the youngest of seven siblings, Avery was a very quiet, yet determined individual; once he set his sights on something he had to achieve it. Avery could often be found either fishing, reading, or under the watchful eye of his mother.
In School he worked extremely hard and took pride when he graduated Grant Union High School. Upon graduation he attended American River College where he focused on Black History among other things.Thereafter he sought several professional trades attending carpentry school/general contractor license and eventually operating his own business. He also obtained his diesel mechanics license to drive trucks.
Avery resided in Sacramento most of his life working as a security guard at a local hospital.
He loved to learn, travel throughout the United States and cook, but especially art; he was a master of southern home cooking.
He viewed his greatest task and joy to being a father to his daughter Averyanna. The two shared a unique and unbreakable bond. It is common knowledge that he often spoke of her with pride.He spoke with her frequently and even pursued a cross country move to live near her. They enjoyed shopping and deep life conversations together.
On July 10, 2017 Avery departed this life peacefully while at home. He is preceded in death by his parents, O.C. Owens and Christine Wilson-Owens, his sister Cheri Owens-Daniels and his brother, O.C. Owens Jr. He leaves to mourn, his daughter Averyanna Owens, the mother of Averyanna Rhonda Owens, his siblings Aquila Rushton, Eugene Owens, Nathaniel (Sherada) Owens and Andre Owens, his nieces and nephews Xaviera Shedrick-Owens, Sylvia Owens, Ashley Blok, Pierre Owens, Zachary Owens, J.R. Rushton, Shaun Rushton, and Krystal Rushton. He leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
