Amie Sue Moody Destfino's Obituary
Amie Sue, 50, Rio Linda resident, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, after an incredible and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She leaves behind her husband of 28 years Michael Destfino, her daughter Angela Moody, and four grandkids: Jedidiah, Isaiah, Maurice, and Bayleigh.
Amie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, friends, and cats, which she loved so much. She battled ovarian cancer almost half of her life beating every obstacle thrown at her, and did it in a way that is inspiring to so many. She was an advocate for ovarian cancer and participated in “Let’s Roc” run to raise awareness and funding for ovarian cancer. Up until her final months, she wanted to make something good of all of this and participated in a trial for terminally ill cancer patients. She knew this trial would would not cure her diagnosis, however she thought she could potentially save another life, so she would sustain the pain if it meant a step closer in finding a cure. Anyone who knew Amie, knew she loved her cats and was often called “The Crazy Cat Woman”! More than anything, she loved life and everyone that knew her, loved her! She will be missed every day.
Amie is survived by her husband, daughter, and grandchildren, as well as her mother, Shirley Venable, sisters Anita and Bobbie, her brother Duke (Ervin), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father Robert (Bob) Moody.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Lawn Chapel, 4701 Marysville Blvd, in Sacramento on Friday, June 5 at 10:00 am. Following the service the family invites you to continue “Celebrating Amie Sue’s life” at the Rio Linda Community Center, 6730 W Front Street. Please bring your favorite dish to share.
The family would like to thank Dr. Scudder at UCD for never giving up on her and the extraordinary care given to Amie from the all of the nursing staff at UCD.
