Alice Louise Redd's Obituary
ALICE LOUISE REDD
December 5, 1953 to August 17, 2020
Alice was born in Utah to Elliott Redd and Rika VandenBerg Redd. Alice became totally blind within three days of birth, due to an as yet discovered problem with oxygen levels in the incubator. The family moved to California so Alice could later attend The School for the Blind in Berkeley. They lived in Lake County and later in Sonoma County. Following graduation from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, CA, Alice lived for awhile in the East Bay, later settling in Sacramento, where she attended college and graduated with an Associates of Arts Degree.
Alice had a wonderful sense of humor and always found it easy to make friends. She loved music and good books. She was always looking for new authors to read and quite excited when she found a new one she liked. She learned how to play the violin at an early age. Her disability never slowed her down. She took public transit to make her way around busy Sacramento, lived completely on her own and did some volunteer work. She even made a trip by Greyhound clear across the country and back. She made several close lifelong friends who will miss their lively visits and phone calls.
In recent years, Alice was living in a skilled nursing facility, where she made some new friends and enjoyed the social activities. The pandemic changed everything and was very hard on her as she couldn’t get any new books. Sadly, after five months of sheltering in place, Covid-19 claimed her and she died peacefully within hours of feeling ill.
Alice is predeceased by both parents and her sister Barbara Fisher (Louis). She leaves behind her beautiful daughter Desiree, who she gave up at birth to a wonderful family, knowing she’d have the best life possible, her ex-husband James Trumphour, sister Elizabeth Waters (Mark), brother John Redd, and her two nephews Evan (Bonnie) and Benjamin, and great-niece Maya.
