Ronald H. Smith, a cherished member of our community, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on the last day of 1937, Ronald’s life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and the simple joys of life.
A proud alumnus of Grant Union High School and American River College, Ronald’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate a successful battery shop and a blinds and curtain shop, showcasing his knack for business and service.
Ronald’s 34-year tenure with the State of California’s DMV was marked by his unwavering commitment to public service, where he not only excelled in his role but also formed lasting friendships.
Beyond his professional life, Ronald was an avid outdoorsman. His love for fishing, camping, hunting, and RVing was infectious, and he often shared these passions with friends and family, creating countless cherished memories.
Ronald’s hands were rarely still, as he found joy in working on cars, a hobby that reflected his meticulous nature and mechanical genius.
Ronald’s legacy is carried on through his family, friends, and all the lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. He will be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest, with a fishing rod in one hand and a wrench in the other.
As we bid farewell to Ronald, we take solace in knowing that his memory will continue to inspire us to embrace the great outdoors and tackle life’s challenges with grace and determination.

Ronald is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Janice K. (Miller) Smith. Together, they built a family foundation strong enough to support the dreams and aspirations of their sons, Ronald Mark Smith (Sue) and John William Smith (Lori), and to weather the storms of life with unwavering love.
He was a guiding light for his brothers Russel and Vernon and sisters Patty and Beth, a role model for his nine grandchildren, and a source of joy for his ten great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his zest for life. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, William H and Verna J Smith, his son Patrick H. Smith, his brothers William, Jim, Henry, Jesse, and Jerry, his sisters Barbara, Joyce, Opal,
Linda, and his grandson Ryan P Smith. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and their memories were his cherished companions.
