Wilbert Edwards was born March 15, 1930 to Anne Long and James Edwards in Pensacola, Florida.
On November 2, 1951, he married Mary Pettis. To this blissful union of 26 years, six children were born. Mary preceded him in death, going home to be with the Lord on March 22, 1991.
On October 9, 1995 Wilbert united in marriage for 20 wonderful years to Wanda Williams.
Wilbert Edwards (known to many as Ed) was a proud veteran – serving in the United States Air Force for twenty six years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1977. He was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and and friend to those who knew and loved him.
Wilbert Edwards was a man full of life with an outgoing personality. For those who knew him well understood why his nickname was “Dirty Ed”. He was an avid reader and had a keen knowledsge on a plethora of subjects including history, culture and politics. One could ask him a question on any topic and he would have a story to tell. He loved spending time sitting in his “Special Recliner” reading one of his many books, watching the news or an old cowboy movie.
To his family he was the epitome of strength, the solid foundation, the comedian, the historian and advisor – a man of integrity who was loved and will continue to be loved and remembered through eternity.
He leaves his cherished memories to: his beloved wife Wanda; 3 daughters, Deborah, Jenilia and Nolice, 3 sons George, Nathaniel and Cervantes; step-daughters, Tammy, Sandy and Jill, sister in law Joyce, and a host of devoted grandchildren, great grandchildren , other family members and friends.
