Vernon Roy Morris

MORRIS, VERNON ROYBorn July 31, 1943 in Granite City, Illinois. Left this world to be with the Lord on October 6, 2002, surrounded by hundreds of friends and his passion, loud hot rods. As a youngster, he worked for American Moving Company and Mike’s Market prior to graduating from Norte Del Rio High School in 1961. Later employed by Southern Pacific Railroad, ARA, and Rainbo Baking Company. Was a proud member of the Rio Linda Masonic Temple, NSRA, and the NRA. Involved with various car clubs over the years including the Maroders, the Unclub and Over the Hill Gang. He loved fast cars, laughter, and people, especially his close friends and family. He was widely known for his technical expertise in building hot rods. It was said he could take a stick and make it run. Also known for his gift of gab, kindness, and compassion all of which will be greatly missed. Survived by his mother, Myrtie Robinett; his love and companion, Darlene Steiner; his sisters, Cari Jean Vivian and Bonnie Jackson (Ron); son, Troy Morris; daughter, Shelli Villalobos (Tony); grandchildren, Cody, Nikki, Tony and Sabrina; nieces, Traci Moralez and Jenele Sanford; grandniece, Nicole; grandnephews, Jayme, Joshua, and twins, Andrew and Anthony. Locally he leaves his aunt, Arlene Morris, numerous cousins and a host of friends. Preceded in death by his father, Ira Vernon Morris and his stepfather, Dee Robinett. Viewing will be held at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd, Sacramento on Saturday, October 12 from 4:00-8:00pm. Memorial services will be held Sunday, October 13 at 1:00pm. We will honor his wish for a final ride in the ’37 taking him to his final resting place. His expressed desire was that all of his friends with hot rods and loud cars have one last run together. Immediately following the services there will be a gathering at 7316 22nd Street, near Q. Just follow the hot rods.
