Heather Jo Anne Olson
Birth Date: January 2, 1964
Death Date: December 9, 2016
Heather JoAnne (Gaspary) Olson.
Having made Sacramento her home for over 28 years, Heather left this earth suddenly on December 9, 2016 after a long illness. Age 52.
Born in 1964 in Upstate New York, she was the first child of three adopted by her parents Margaret “Peggy” Lina and Gerald “Jerry” Leonard Gaspary. Being their first child, she was the start of something special and the light of their lives. She was a special favorite of Grammy Williams, Peggy’s Mom (Aka Granny Goose), who doted over her when she was little and taught her how to bake her incredible cookies.
Her father’s career with General Electric allowed the Gaspary family to live in many parts of the country. Heather lived in San Diego, CA, Upstate New York, Topsfield, MA, Aptos, CA, Chicago, IL and Moraga, CA. in 1971, When Heather was 6 years old they lived in Massachusetts, her family bought a cottage in Silver Lake NH on the lake. She and her younger siblings Heidi and Darren were fortunate to spend every weekend on Silver Lake for 6 years and the entire summer growing up when the family moved to California. This place, the people, the experiences and all the natural beauty of New Hampshire’s White Mountains held a special place in her heart.
Upon graduation from Campolindo High School in Moraga, CA in 1982 Heather began her adult life legacy in Natomas and Sacramento when she started attending CSU Sacramento. Having lived in so many amazing places throughout the United states, Sacramento offered everything she was looking for and was a home she loved.
The one life experience she cherished, and felt every person should be given a chance to experience, was becoming a mother or father. She felt she gained so much from her experience and wanted the rest of her family to enjoy. She was especially proud when both her son and her brother experienced fatherhood within the past two years, both with boys, while she was still around. She was also quick to point out, as was her style, that her brother Darren (44 years old at the birth of his son) was going to have a much harder time physically than her son Nick who was 20 years younger. Her mastery of the obvious and and weaving it into biting, well-timed sarcastic comments was part of her humorous appeal.
Truly at home at a Sacramento King’s game, a Journey concert, or on the Sacramento River she loved her sports, music and all activities on and around the water, Her second biggest passion, behind her beloved son Nick, was being a fan of the San Francisco 49ers. Having witnessed the 49ers win several trophies throughout the years, she wasn’t someone to be out done. As a career highlight, she earned the top customer service for A T & T in the country. But her biggest achievements were her ability to surround herself with truly amazing friends and family.
Aside from several friends, she leaves behind her parents Margaret “Peggy” and Gerald “Jerry” Gaspary, brother Darren Gaspary (Wife Amelia, son Jack) and sister Heidi Henninger (Husband Thomas, sons Nathaniel and Zachary) and special friend Scott Gridley, Her marriage to the late Dean Olson provided the love of her life, her son Nicholas “Nick” Olson who shares his life with
Amanda Khamprasong and cherished grandson Liam Dean Olson who will miss her dearly. Nick and his family are surrounded with Olson family here in Sacramento, with Uncle Carl Olson and Grandparents Dale and Janet Olson, who have contributed so much to Nick’s life over the years.
Private inurnment will be held at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 starting at 3:00 pm at the Virgin Sturgeon Restaurant, 1577 Garden Highway, Sacramento, CA 95833, where friends and family have created memories for Heather that she always treasured.
