Daniel Richard Nardico

NARDICO, Daniel Richard Passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 in Sacramento, CA. A native of Painesville, Ohio. He was 85 years old. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 42 years, Rachel. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Danella Plum, Danny B. Nardico, Ann Hammons and Helen Galindo; siblings Angee Betzer, Janice Baker, Danya Morgan and Diane Vihtelic. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Richard C. Galindo, Jr., Tony E. Galindo, Tommy Galindo, Yvonne McCreary, Eliza A. Hansen, Andrea Plum and Danny E. Hansen, Danielle Trujillo, Derrick Plum, Ronald D. Hammons, Jr., Sean F. Hammons, Tiffany Nardico and Crystal Nardico, 31 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Sue Nardico, sister Margie Niebus, Theresa Caruso, Edna Brockway, Johnny Galindo, and his beloved dog “Chelsea”. Mr. Nardico was a WWII Marine Sergeant who was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star for his brave actions. He was also a professional boxer who fought out of Tampa, FL. He had a ring record of 50 wins (35 by knockout ), 13 Losses, and 4 draws. Nardico was particularly proud of being the only boxer to deck Jake LaMotta. He did it with a right in the seventh round of a light heavyweight fight in Coral Gables, Florida on New Years Eve 1952 and the bout can be viewed on YouTube. Jake LaMotta’s corner stopped the bout before the eighth of the scheduled 10-round contest. Mr. Nardico coached boxing and ran the recreation program at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center (NNCC) in Carson City for over 15 years. Once retired Daniel and his wife Rachel moved to Cool, CA where they built their own home. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family. Five years ago he moved to South Natomas with his wife Rachel and his grandson Richard C. Galindo, Jr., who was his caretaker. Friends are welcome for visitation, Tuesday, November 30, 2010 and Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 5:00 to 8:00 pm both nights and are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service, Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 1:00 pm, all at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd, Sacramento, CA.

  1. Sorry for your loss. In a serch for an old friend this web page came up several times. I suspect their is a connection. I have been serching for an old friend. He is about 45 now and he grew up in painesville ohio as did I. His name is Danny Neibus and his mothers name was marg I believe. She is passed way and he has moved about the world now. Last I talked to him he was living in west berlin germany. Then I heard he moved to new york. Again I am sorry for your loss. He sounds like he was a hreat man and lived a full and wonderful life.
